Budding Engineers go karting with DriveMe
Young engineers at a Primary School in Staffordshire will test drive their creations at a nearby driving experience centre. Electrically powered go-karts, designed and built by pupils who are members of the Young Engineers Club at Cooper Perry Primary School in Seighford, Staffordshire, will be tested at the Driveme.net track.
Driveme, which is based at Seighford airfield, is holding a series of educational workshops for schools in the area and is working in conjunction with Cooper Perry Primary School to establish an educational consultancy regarding engineering construction and safety.
Driveme has sponsored one of the School’s go-karts and the Parents Teachers Association is holding an evening at the driving experience centre, where parents will have the chance to see their children’s designs on the track and be driven by instructors in cars ranging from Aston Martins to off-road 4×4 vehicles.
Allan Davies, director of Driveme.net Ltd. said; “We are encouraging an interest in engineering for young people and are pleased that pupils and parents can test drive their go-kart in a safe environment on our track. We are pleased to be sponsoring a go-kart for the Young Engineers Club at Cooper Perry Primary School.”
Steve Hall, head teacher of Cooper Perry Primary School, said: “Test driving the pupils’ designs on the Driveme track is a great way to celebrate the pupils’ achievement in building their kart and we are delighted that Driveme.net has sponsored one of our go-karts. We have an excellent relationship with Driveme and have always found all of their staff to be friendly and helpful. We are looking forward to developing the children’s interest and skills in engineering through our association with Driveme. We are working with Driveme to establish an educational consultancy which will involve schools and budding engineers and we are drawing up an education plan suitable for the county.”
Recently, Driveme has announced exciting new plans for Seighford airfield, the former RAF Seighford, North West of Stafford. The plans show a multi-million pound investment in the airfield, as a centre for driving excellence. They aim to enhance the landscape and facilities for locals and visitors, who arrive from all over the UK.
