Schoolkids and caterers raise £1,500 with food fun for Children in Need
A Pudsey shaped pizza was delivered to Children In Need along with a cheque for £1,500 by school caterers Cucina.
Eight schools across England were eating healthily last week and raising money in aid of Pudsey. In all, 4,240 schoolchildren in schools in Berkshire, Middlesex, Northamptonshire and Yorkshire (details below) helped to raise the cash in fun food initiatives for Children in Need.
Caterer for these schools, Cucina has been selling cookies baked fresh every day last week in breaks and at lunch, shaped as Pudsey bear. Every day at lunchtime a World Record has been attempted by the children in achievements they chose from the Guinness Book of World Records.
Schoolchildren at Sandhurst School in Berkshire attempted the World Record for eating Smarties and also jelly with chopsticks, as well as eating baked beans with cocktail sticks. Pupils also competed to eat three Pudsey cookies in the quickest time. Edgbarrow School in Berkshire also attempted a World Record for eating individual baked beans with a cocktail stick and the head teacher Bob Elsey even climbed into a full bath of baked beans to raise money for charity.
Steve Quinn, Managing Director of Cucina, said:
“This was a great team effort and we are delighted that Cucina could assist the schools in raising money for such a worthwhile charity through fun and interactive events involving our food service. Our cheque contributed to the record total of more than £19 million raised for Children In Need this year.”
The Cucina team delivered the Pudsey pizza, which was made by head of catering services for Cucina Joe Perkins at Edgbarrow School, and presented a cheque inside the pizza box lid to the BBC’s television studios in Wood Lane, London.
Cucina has a fast growing number of schools throughout the country benefiting from freshly prepared, healthy food, made from locally sourced ingredients and planned by a top nutritionist.
