Historic first Performance: Raw Talent Unveiled
Chester Performs has unveiled its first production, a spooky open-air performance of The Third Hand, a show by Chester Live Youth Theatre, directed by Alexandra Wardell.
The cast of 30 young people aged 11 to 17 years will perform a series of fictional stories drawing from ideas surrounding Chester’s myths and legends. The piece has been created by the group and will be performed at St John’s Ruins in July.
Geoff Clifton, Chairman of Chester Performs, said: “We wanted the raw talent of Chester to kick-start our programme. This will be a real test of the young people’s mettle, performing outside amongst the ruins. I am sure they will rise to the significance of the occasion.”
Chester Performs Creative Producer Alison Jagger said: “Inspired by the myths, legends and folklore that surround Chester’s rich and detailed past, The Third Hand explores the realms of recording history through storytelling. We invite you on a journey through Chester’s own story, we guarantee you won’t have heard told before.”
The Third Hand will be performed at 8pm on Thursday July 19 and Friday July 20 in the Ruins next to St John the Baptist Church, Grosvenor Park (opposite Chester Visitor’s Centre on Vicar’s Lane).
Please note this production is outdoors and whilst every step has been taken to ensure both evenings meet with your expectations we are unable to book the weather! We would therefore advise you to wear appropriate clothing and footwear and bring along an umbrella in the event of rain.
This is a site specific performance, parts of which will take place on uneven ground. If you have any access requirements please let us know when booking.
Tickets cost £5/£3.50 concessions (limited tickets available, pre booking essential). For ticket enquiries and further information please contact Amber Jones on 01244 409113 or email: amber@chesterperforms.com

Background
Chester Performs is overseeing the development of the city’s new performing arts centre, which will open in 2011. We are set to challenge audiences with a series of high profile performing arts events and community projects. Our aim is to broaden horizons and raise the level of expectation in the performing arts both in Chester and Cheshire.
Following the closure of Chester Gateway Theatre, Chester Performs will be working with the region’s artists and communities and plans to stage work in non-traditional and outdoor spaces across the region. Cutting edge performances will take place on the streets of Chester, by the River Dee and around the Roman walls. These projects will involve street performers and aerial artists, musicians, dancers, actors, visual and sonic artists, installations and performance art.
