First staff appointments for Chester Performs

Chester Performs, the new organisation leading the development of the new performing arts centre in Chester, has announced its first staff appointments.

Alison Jagger takes up the post of Creative Producer. Alison will lead the conception and delivery of the organisation’s innovative creative programme between now and the centre’s opening in 2011. Alison has a wealth of production knowledge gained over many years as a production manager with the BBC and her experience ranges from staging large concerts in Poland to television productions in New York. She is currently working at Clwyd Theatre Cymru.

Amber Jones is appointed as Project Administrator and with Alison, will co-ordinate the programme and develop artists and community networks. Amber has a lifetime’s experience in the performing arts including touring across Europe with circus and theatre companies. She was Marketing Co-ordinator at FACT in Liverpool and is currently working in community education at Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

Chester Performs Chairman Geoff Clifton said:

“These appointments establish our credentials as a serious force for performing arts in the region. Chester Performs is delighted that we can attract two such high calibre individuals and are confident that we now have the team in place to deliver significant results for the city and the region up to and beyond 2011.”

Chester Performs is supported by new grants from Chester City Council, Arts Council of England (Northwest) and Cheshire County Council.

Background

The seating capacity of the new performance centre addresses a gap in the market in the northwest, which has very few spaces available for music and dance at this size. It will be ideal for small orchestral and chamber concerts, contemporary music and jazz, contemporary dance as well as providing the ideal size for challenging, quality drama. The centre will show regular art house films in the second space. The new centre will have three spaces, the main space holding just over 550 seats; the second 160 and the third a more casual space for rehearsals and hospitality. The main space will have acoustics designed for classical music as well as drama and the seating layout is designed to be intimate yet with no poor sightlines.
