Exciting New Performance Opportunities for Young People
Chester Performs, the new organisation leading the development of performing arts in Chester, has launched an exciting programme of projects aimed at young people and is looking for new members to take part. Chester Performs will be working with the acclaimed Action Transport Theatre, one of the country’s leading young peoples’ theatre organisations to deliver these projects.
Funded by the City, County and Arts Councils to continue the work of the Gateway youth theatre, Chester Performs has changed the format of the previous programme from a weekly group, to a series of intensive projects which will take place through October half term. Each group will perform in a combined spectacular in November called Up the Wall.
Options this term include drama and physical theatre, junkyard orchestras and mask making. A variety of other taster sessions and opportunities to get involved in writing new theatre are also on offer.
Project Administrator Amber Jones is keen to get going: “It is a very exciting time for us, having taken over the youth theatre provision from the Gateway Theatre we are keen to develop a popular young peoples’ arts programme which will give a really broad range of projects. We are also currently recruiting a Youth Steering Group; the idea is to bring together a group of young people who will influence the future of the programme.”
Details on how to sign up either yourself or your family can be found by e-mailing Amber at amber@chesterperforms.com or phoning 01244 409113.
Chester Performs is currently recruiting and they expect a high demand for places, which are priced at £35 and £30 per project.
