Cool and Crazy Launch for Screen Deva
Screen Deva, the new film and digital media festival for Chester has been launched. The event, organised by Chester Performs, featured video, photographic and interactive work from local artists at the Screen Deva Studio on Watergate Row, Chester.
The launch party was attended by more than 50 people with many visitors enjoying the combination of audio, visual and interactive elements in the works. After the exhibit, the crowd moved to Alexander’s in Rufus Court, for Deva Live! for an audio-visual music event featuring music from local band The Loose Kites and video art from multi-media artist Gemma Briers.
To bring the launch to a close, St Olave’s, the atmospheric Norwegian church on Lower Bridge Street, was filled for a showing of ‘Cool and Crazy’ (Heftig og begeistret). Knut Erik Jensen’s documentary followed the fortunes of a Norwegian fishing village’s male voice choir and judging by viewers reactions, the Scandinavian success has spread to Chester.
The exhibition at the Screen Deva Studio, Watergate Street, runs until Sunday 15th June and features the following works: When They Are Gone They Are Gone and I Went There But It Was Closed by Cheshire artist Beth Barlow, Boundary Lane, by North Wales based artist Paul Jones and Kaleidoscopia, an interactive work by Shropshire artist Andy McKeown.
The Screen Deva Studio will also function as an information point and venue for a special North West Filmmakers night on Wednesday June 11.
Further venues include Telford’s Warehouse in Tower Wharf and Olio & Farina in Bridge Street.
Full programme information, details of where to pick up a programme and tickets are available at www.chesterperforms.com or by ringing 01244 409113. Tickets for the films and digital media events are on sale now.
