Sausages go out with a BANG at Food & Drink Festival
The best overall sausage at the sausage competition was announced after three recounts, as the boerewors from Bebington’s, Wirral. This spicy sausage won best flavoured sausage and the winners will receive their Award at the Gala dinner on Tuesday. The winner of the plain category was the pork cumberland from Ferneyhough’s butchers, Market Hall, Chester.
Of the 5 million people a day and 90% of households eating sausages around Britain 20,000 of them are expected at Chester Food & Drink Festival over the Bank Holiday weekend. Joe Wright, Chef at Sandiway Golf Club cooks up his big bangers for the sausage seminar & tasting. More sausages are eaten on Saturday than any other day of the week, 44% for an evening meal rather than 18% for breakfast. The British public spend 600 million UK pounds on 266,500 tonnes of sausages a year of which there are 470 different types.
