Chester Fashion Week Success

More than 5,000 people attended shows across the city at Chester’s first Fashion Festival with hundreds of retailers in and around the Chester taking part. There were eight different large venue shows and numerous retail outlet shows taking place at venues as diverse as Chester Zoo, The Designer Outlet at Cheshire Oaks, The Town Hall and The Mall Grosvenor.

The week proved a huge hit with well over 5,000 people attending shows across the week and retailers reported an increase in sales of more than 50 per cent on days when shows took place.

Corporate support from HSBC bank and local government agencies showed how the private and public sector could work together to showcase this vital trade within Chester.

Chester Fashion chairman Stephen Wundke, who was delighted with the outcomes of the week, said:

"We had a very short lead time for this year’s event but the reaction from all sectors shows this is the type of event that Chester people really want and we are excited about the prospect of moving this forward as a main calendar event within the Chester Festivals."

Fellow Organiser Mandy White added:

"Chester Fashion has it sights set on being the lead fashion event outside London Fashion Week and talks have already started with fringe designers to see if Chester can stage events for them in 2007 outside the capital."

The organisers added that they believed Chester is the perfect location for fashion launches and who knows maybe next year the Stella McCartney range might be shown first on Chester Walls. They said that one thing is for certain after this year’s success Chester Fashion 2007 promises to be a great event.

Chester’s Fashion 2006 was organised on behalf of Chester City Council and CHARISMA, with support from the Northwest Regional Development Agency, Visit Chester & Cheshire; the tourism board for Cheshire and Warrington, Creative Industries Support Project (CRISP), Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, The Mall Grosvenor, The Forum Shopping Centre, Chester Zoo, HSBC, Mfm 103.4 and Trinity Mirror.
