Faces of Chester 2007
Two models have been crowned the Face of Chester 2007 at a catwalk event in the city last night. Katriona Vowles, 18, and Tom Hill, 23, walked away with a year’s modelling contract with Boss Model Management.
The Young Designer for 2007 was also awarded last night to Tara Harding and Michael McGahan and the Young Photographer Award was presented to Chris Cannon at the event, which was held at the Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel. More than 100 people attended the evening.
Last year’s Face of Chester Jess Miller was at last night’s event to present the new Faces with their prize. The 17 male and female finalists were handpicked from hundreds of entrants from in and around Chester and they performed a catwalk show, with the latest Autumn/Winter collections supplied by a range of Chester retailers including Coast, Kookai and Jaeger. The evening was hosted by Chris Blumer and Deano of 103.4 Marcher Sound.
The finalists also modelled garden themed designs from Mid-Cheshire College for the Young Designer Award, in anticipation of the Cheshire Year of the Gardens 2008, which will celebrate the gardens and green-fingered of Cheshire.
Chairman of Chester Fashion Stephen Wundke said: “This was a fantastic show played out in front of a packed audience. We wish the Faces of Chester well and trust they will represent our city with distinction. There were also some spectacular garden creations from the young designers and a selection of superb photographs for the Young Photography Award. We hope this really kick starts the Faces of Chester career.”
Speaking last night, Melanie Hardy of Boss Model management, added: “Tonight has been fabulous. We’ve seen some great faces. When we are looking for faces we have to take into account movement and how photogenic the models are. The Faces of Chester win a photographic and make up session with a professional photographer. We aim to give them the best foot up the ladder we can.”
After winning Tom Hill, 23, said: “I feel amazing. I can’t believe it. This is a great opportunity.”
Katriona Vowles, 18, added: “I’m really surprised, but delighted. I’ve only recently moved to Chester, so this is a shock.”
Last year, Liam Collins, 28, and Jess Miller, 16, took the top prizes in The Face of Chester. As a result, Liam appeared in a TV commercial for Sky Sports and Jess has had interest from agencies in Japan, which she hopes to pursue this year.
The evening included work from young designers and was an opportunity for the general public to see haute couture up close from the next generation of fashion designers.
Chester’s Fashion 2007 forms an important part of Chester Festivals and is organised on behalf of Chester City Council and CHARISMA, with support from the Northwest Regional Development Agency, Visit Chester & Cheshire, Creative Industries Support Project (CRISP), The Mall Grosvenor, The Forum Shopping Centre, HSBC, 103.4 Marcher Sound and Trinity Mirror.
