Loan sharks beware: CDHT and Chester Credit Union unite

Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) has signed an agreement for service standards with community bank Chester Credit Union. Both companies are looking forward to an ongoing relationship, providing customers with low cost loans, sensible saving plans and sound financial management.

Chester Credit Union is a not-for-profit community based organisation, which has interview rooms at CDHT’s Centurion House, Northgate Street, Chester offices. The offices are open in reception on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 10am to 12.30pm, where customers can join Chester Credit Union, deposit money and also hand in requests for share withdrawals and loan applications.

Paul Knight, CDHT Executive Manager for Performance and Income, said: “We are overjoyed to be working with Chester Credit Union and want to raise the awareness of their services to our customers. Some of our customers have issues with multiple debts and have problems establishing savings. We are recommending Chester Credit Union and the service level agreement provides peace of mind for all. The Credit Union provides a secure way of saving, as well as low interest loans, which is a much better option than borrowing from loan sharks or any other high interest lender. Chester Credit Union has a social conscience and has a similar philosophy to the Trust offering what we consider to be the best services for our customers. People who have multiple debts and a bad credit history can get loans, as Chester Credit Union will help high risk customers too.”

Neil Jay, Manager of Chester Credit Union, added: “We are delighted to sign this service level agreement between ourselves and Chester & District Housing Trust. This document is in place to show that we support each other and will promote our shared services. The Trust has been extremely supportive of Chester Credit Union and CDHT’s Chief Executive John Denny has signed up as a member already. We have introduced a pay-point system, where people can pay via a pay-point card at post offices when they are on holiday anywhere in the UK. This is a cracking way of saving for Christmas, holidays or special events.”

Anyone who lives or works in Chester and the District can apply to Chester Credit Union. You must become a member to apply for loans.

CDHT also manages the housing waiting list and homelessness agency service on behalf of Chester City Council.

Current projects for CDHT include the £12million regeneration of the Treborth Road area of Chester, to include 200 new homes for rent, sale and shared ownership, as well as a village green and wildlife habitats.
