Lift off for £900,000 modernisation programme

Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) is modernising all of the lifts in its high-rise accommodation. The work is part of a broader plan of improving services and creating better communal environments for CDHT customers.

Three new lifts have already been installed in Blacon, and by April next year all of The Trust’s nine high-rises will have been fitted with new lifts.

The blocks that are scheduled for new lifts are St Oswald’s, St George’s and St Anne’s in Newtown, Haygarth Heights, Rowland Heights and Thackeray Towers, also in Newtown; Plas Dinas, Nant Peris and Glyn Garth in Blacon.

Dave Soothill, Technical and Asset Manager for CDHT, said: “On behalf of the Trust I apologise to the residents who have been inconvenienced by the lift faults we have been experiencing. Our lift partner Otis has been working hard to rectify the faults and I am pleased to say that all lifts are now back in service. The Trust recognises that the lifts to our high rises blocks are in need of refurbishment and we are delighted to have started this process with 3 lifts already complete in Blacon. We are due to refurbish the remainder of our high rise lifts this year and we will be beginning resident consultation very shortly.”

Work on the St Blocks will begin in the summer of this year and work on Haygarth Heights, Rowland Heights and Thackeray Towers will commence when new kitchens and bathrooms have been fitted, beginning in May. This follows on from the new central heating recently installed throughout the Rowland, Haygarth and Thackeray blocks.
