CDHT's Annual Report is front page news
Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) has bucked the trend for stuffy annual reports. The Trust has chosen to celebrate a year of success by distributing its 2007 annual report as a wraparound on Chester’s regional newspaper, the Chester & District Standard, delivered weekly to all residents in and around Chester.
The report takes the form of a newspaper article, with bold graphics and headlines to catch the attention of Trust customers and everyone within the wider area. CDHT’s annual report is now front page news with a circulation of 122,500.
Su Bramley, Deputy Chief Executive of CDHT said: “Annual reports can risk becoming uninviting blocks of text, but by using the wraparound CDHT has tapped into a broad readership, including all of its customers and everyone else within the region. The Trust wanted something that would grab the attention of customers and colleagues alike, with a vibrant design to match its positive news. There’s a lot of information to digest, but the newspaper format helps to break it down, reporting on the past 12 months and looking forward to the year ahead too. We’re pleased with the layout which makes it really appealing to read.”
John Denny, Chief Executive of CDHT added: “In previous years CDHT has distributed a booklet of the annual report to each resident. The wraparound has proved far more effective, both in terms of cost savings and increased response. It has already generated enquiries from customers who are keen to be involved in board membership and our consultation processes, including the residents’ editorial board that reviewed and approved the report itself. Initiatives like this allow the Trust to invest more wisely, increasing funds to expand our core services. It also means we can communicate with a wider audience than we would normally reach with the traditional annual report format.”
