£8.7 million investment in affordable, new homes with CDHT
Chester City Council recently received £5.4 million from the Housing Corporation towards affordable homes. Over £3 million of this has been allocated to Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT) who will match fund this sum to provide a £8.7 million investment in property.
Three schemes are planned for start later in 2008 and completion in late 2010 on land owned by CDHT. Two will be based in rural locations and one in the City at Suffolk House. They will deliver a total of 81 new homes, 55 for rent and 26 for low cost home ownership. CDHT will be working in conjunction with the PLUS Harvest Development Partnership, through which it develops a range of new properties for rent, shared ownership, and outright sale.
Councillor Mike Jones, speaking as Executive Member for Development at Chester City Council and Cheshire representative for the North West Regional Housing Group, who is to become the leader for the New Shadow Authority of Cheshire West and Cheshire, said: “This project shows how careful use of resources can deliver first class accommodation for those who need it when we work closely with our partners in Chester. Providing more affordable homes is a top priority for Chester City Council.”
Paul J Knight, Executive Housing Manager at CDHT said; “This is great news for Chester and goes some way to helping alleviate the requirements locally for affordable homes. We look forward to working with all our partners on this project. CDHT has a track record in delivering value and valued homes; homes that people want to live in.”
