Calling all Budding Musicians (and tone deaf wannabes)
One of the UK’s leading chamber orchestras, Manchester Camerata, is teaming up with Chester Festivals to return once again to Chester Cathedral in February. However, this time it won’t be professional musicians performing, but Chester families getting creative!
Family Music Day, with Manchester Camerata and Chester Festivals, Saturday February 9, 2008, 10.30am to 2.30pm.
No matter what your age or ability, there’s a part for you to play in this exciting, jam-packed event, aimed at children aged seven to 11 and their parents or guardians. You just need enthusiasm and energy.
The day will include: • Hands on workshops where you will make your own instrument • A percussion workshop, where you can have a go on a huge range of percussion instruments with the orchestra’s professional percussionist • A fun session with Manchester Camerata musicians and storytellers to create your own soundtrack to an Aboriginal story of the creation of the Earth, complete with storms and chaos!
The full story will be performed by everyone taking part at 1.30pm, in a performance for family and friends that is free for anyone to attend, so make sure you invite your fan club to come along!
Charlotte Spencer, Manchester Camerata’s Head of Learning and Participation, said, “This is a great opportunity for families to spend time together doing something creative and it’s a fun way for children to build confidence with the help of professional performers. You will be able to get as involved as you like, but from experience I know that even the most retiring Gran won’t be able to resist trying out the cymbals!”
Ticket information: Adult Participant £5 / Child Participant £3 (children must be accompanied by a supervising adult) To book call the Chester Festivals box office on 01244 304 618 or pop into Chester Tourist Information Centre opposite the Cathedral.
