Public involvement spices up sizzling Saturday
Six butchers whose sausages have been selected for the Final of the sausage competition at this year’s Chester Food and Drink Festival are cooking up their sausages on the Saturday before the main event. The public can enjoy a free trial of the Finalist sausages and decide what the best sausages are in terms of presentation, texture and most importantly taste by visiting the six butchers below on Saturday March 15th.
Also, by popping into the participating butchers on March 15th, members of the public can apply to be a judge for the main sausage competition, which is taking place at Chester Racecourse on Saturday March 22nd.
Eight sausages were short-listed from more than 100 entered for the Sausage Competition and they are:
Chris Austin, of Austin’s Butchers, with the Chester Sausage Noel Baker, of The Close, Blacon, Beef & Onion Stuart Bebbington, of Chester Market, Pork and Apple John Edge, of Handbridge, Lamb and Mint David Joinson (Last Years Winner) of Chester Market, Pork and Blue Cheshire Cheese David Joinson, of Chester Market, Pork and leek Phil Salt, of Stocks Lane, Boughton, Thick Pork Phil Salt, of Stocks Lane, Boughton, Country Style
Carole Faulkner, Chairman of the judging panel, said: “We hope the public will really get behind this competition by going into the six butchers and requesting to taste the Chester Food & Drink Festival entrants. If you want to try all eight Finalists, you’ll have to do a circuit of the participating butchers, but it will be worth it. The quality of these Finalist sausages is very high, with new recipes that have some really interesting combinations of herbs and spices. We are delighted there will be more public involvement in this competition and hope to find some exceptional judges who really know their sausages.”
