Locals consulted on plans for Staffordshire airfield

Former RAF airfield at Seighford, North West of Stafford has been the subject of speculation on plans to develop a driving activity centre. More detailed plans are now being prepared by Cheshire based driveme.net Ltd. They involve moving out of portacabins and replacing old hangers and part of the runway.

Driveme has been running driver experience days at Seighford since 2004 and the company is keen to involve the local community in the plans for the site. This includes the villages of Seighford, Ranton and Great Bridgeford.

Allan Davies, a director of Driveme.net Ltd. said; “We, as users of the facilities and local employers at Seighford airfield, are working with the site owners on new plans as a result of meeting and speaking with the local community and people interested in the project. We have done our best with the site since 2004 but are limited with what we can do without purpose built facilities.

We held a consultation meeting at Seighford Village Hall in July 2007 and stayed to discuss plans at the Summer Fete the next day. Many of the recommendations made by Stafford Borough Council and local residents have now been incorporated into the new plans as a result.

This has involved detailed studies of traffic and transportation, landscaping, ecology, trees, acoustics and drainage. We really want to make a positive difference to the area and enhance the local rural landscape, whilst also securing local employment and stimulating additional new employment”.

Existing plans include an eco-friendly visitor and hospitality centre, a maintenance and storage building/hanger, vehicle tracks, and landscaping to include car parking and protection of the natural habitat & wildlife.
