Incredible Ischia launch for the Cheshire set
Luxury travel company Grand Tourist has announced that it is exhibiting at one of the UK’s largest design exhibitions this week. Grand Tourist, which specialises in the finest that Europe has to offer, is launching a new range of luxury Italian holidays at Cheshire’s Tatton Park Design Weekend starting from Saturday May 3 to May 5, 2008.
Grand Tourists will stay at one of multi-Oscar winning film director, Francis Ford-Coppola’s favourite hotels on the island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples. Ischia is Capri’s lesser known sister island and is also where The Talented Mr Ripley was filmed.
Chester based Grand Tourist specialises in revealing the finest of Italian culture; gastronomy and wine tours to Senigallia, retail therapy breaks to Le Marche, tailor-made trips to the hidden city of Venice, tours of Palladian villas and ‘learn Italian in style’ weeks.
Grand Tourist’s tailor-made experiences combine driving Ferrari’s across Italy with stays at historic palazzo hotels and renaissance villas.
Director of Grand Tourist, Janet Simmonds said:
“The three day Design Weekend at Tatton Park is a fantastic opportunity for Grand Tourist to launch our exclusive Ischia holidays and showcase what we can offer. Grand Tourist will be in the luxury travel area of the Design Weekend show. This is an appropriate exhibition for Grand Tourist, as we specialise in ‘designing’ unique and magical, tailor-made journeys for clients and small groups and are delighted to be taking part in the 10th annual Design Weekend over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
I want to share my love of travel and my knowledge of Europe; to help people to discover the hidden gems of France, Italy and the Alps, to introduce clients to new restaurants, luxurious country houses and welcoming vineyards, where a private tasting or a tour is never too much trouble! It’s really my mission to introduce these fascinating places to my valued clients. For me it’s about rediscovering the art of travel.”
Grand Tourist also offers a range of travel guides for London, Paris, Geneva, Rome and Venice, the European cities visited by the original Grand Tourists. These guides provide ideas for the modern visitor including restaurants, sight-seeing, bars, galleries and museums.
Grand Tourist, supporter of the Roald Dahl Foundation, will be exhibiting in the Luxury Travel room, as part of The Design Weekend.

Notes:
In the 18th century, the Grand Tour was an educational pilgrimage or a rite of passage for wealthy British noblemen. Starting in London, it was a period of European travel which could last from a few months to many years. During the Tour, young men learned about the politics, culture, art and antiquities of neighbouring countries. They spent their time sightseeing, studying, shopping and having fun!
Just as the Grand Tourists experienced the spectacle of glaciers in the Alps, Renaissance Palaces in Italy and the magic of the Venetian lagoon, these treasures remain to be discovered today. Grand Tourist is here to help recapture the essence of travel as experienced by the original Grand Tourists.
If clients are looking for the elusive quality of travel experience that is so hard to find in today’s hectic consumer-driven world, then talk to Grand Tourist. As well as planning European tours, a Tour of Jordan and the Lands of the Bible is also available.
Director of Grand Tourist Janet Simmonds has more than 20 years experience in the travel industry. She graduated from Oxford University in the early 80’s and spent several years working as a tour operator and running her own travel business in Italy, France and the United States. Later she returned to University to study for a Masters Degree in the History of Art and specialised in the Grand Tour of the 18th and 19th centuries.
