Retail Therapy: Grand Tourist takes a mini break to La Dolce Vita
Luxury travel company Grand Tourist exhibited at one of the UK’s largest celebrations of all things Italian. Grand Tourist, which specialises in the finest that Europe has to offer, launched its new Ferrari driving holidays at “La Dolce Vita’ show in London, as well as its new range of retail therapy mini breaks.
Chester based Grand Tourist, which specialises in revealing the finest of Italian culture, operates tailor-made tours to Italy’s Le Marche region, on the Eastern coast of Italy. This is the home of artisans employed by Prada, Tods, Valentino and Cerruti, where the finest Italian handbags and shoes can be found at a fraction of the price in the UK.
Grand Tourist’s tailor-made experiences combine driving Ferraris across Italy with stays at historic palazzo hotels and renaissance villas, weekend breaks to the island of Ischia, where The Talented Mr Ripley was filmed, gastronomy and wine tours to Senigallia, tailor-made trips to Venice, tours of Palladian villas and “learn Italian’ weeks.
Director of Grand Tourist Janet Simmonds said:
“The four day La Dolce Vita show was a fantastic opportunity for Grand Tourist to launch our exclusive Ferrari driving holidays and showcase what else we offer, such as retail therapy tours to Italy. Le Marche is the heart of artisan production for shoes, handbags and clothing for many of Italy’s top designers. Grand Tourist organises visits to factory shops and designer boutiques; you can relax in charming restaurants surrounded by superb scenery. Enjoy all of this while soaking up the warm Italian sunshine. Cool off from your spending spree by taking a dip in the blue waters of the Adriatic. This mini break really is the ultimate in retail therapy. We are finding that people are getting together with friends for their own private retail trip to Le Marche. We specialise in designing unique and magical, tailor-made journeys for clients and small groups. It’s really my mission to introduce fascinating, undiscovered places to my valued clients. For me it’s about rediscovering the art of travel.”
Prices for the three night retail therapy package in Le Marche start at £595 per person, based on two people sharing a double room. Prices do not include flights.

Notes:
In the 18th century, the Grand Tour was an educational pilgrimage or a rite of passage for wealthy British noblemen. Starting in London, it was a period of European travel which could last from a few months to many years. During the Tour, young men learned about the politics, culture, art and antiquities of neighbouring countries. They spent their time sightseeing, studying, shopping and having fun!
Just as the Grand Tourists experienced the spectacle of glaciers in the Alps, Renaissance Palaces in Italy and the magic of the Venetian lagoon, these treasures remain to be discovered today. Grand Tourist is here to help recapture the essence of travel as experienced by the original Grand Tourists.
If clients are looking for the elusive quality of travel experience that is so hard to find in today’s hectic consumer-driven world, then talk to Grand Tourist. As well as planning European tours, a Tour of Jordan and the Lands of the Bible is also available.
Director of Grand Tourist Janet Simmonds has more than 20 years experience in the travel industry. She graduated from Oxford University in the early 80’s and spent several years working as a tour operator and running her own travel business in Italy, France and the United States. Later she returned to University to study for a Masters Degree in the History of Art and specialised in the Grand Tour of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Grand Tourist offers a range of travel guides for London, Paris, Geneva, Rome and Venice, the European cities visited by the original Grand Tourists. These guides provide ideas for the modern visitor including restaurants, sight-seeing, bars, galleries and museums.
