Chester Performs unveils ambitious programme for 2008
Chester Performs announced today an exciting and challenging programme of festivals, projects and performances for the year ahead. With something for everyone, the programme includes a film and digital media festival, an innovative event on Chester’s Rows, a writing project for young people, the return of the massively successful Up the Wall event in October and a spectacular finale to Cheshire’s Year of Gardens.

By putting together such a diverse programme we aim to excite audiences, enhance the city, compliment the existing calendar of events and festivals and provide a platform for talent, innovation and enthusiasm.”
Screen Deva Monday 9th …quot; Sunday 15th June A film and digital media happening for Chester! A celebration of a digital age …quot; ‘Drive-in’ movies, family events, new work, film screenings, workshops, networking, youth and student culture and animation. Taking place around the city, indoors and out, the festival offers a week long programme of screenings and events for the people of Chester.
Roam The Rows Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th August A major summer spectacle for all the family on Chester’s Rows. Experience some of the City’s finest features, see an array of performers and artists, and do your shopping all at the same time.
Up the Wall Thursday 2nd …quot; Saturday 4th October The return of the hugely successful Up the Wall, this time with a European twist. A short trail, a celebration of the walls in light, sound and theatre; from the sublime, to the unusual, to the downright surreal.
Chester Writing Project Performance 18th and 19th October Over the last nine months, 12 young writers have travelled an exciting, writing journey. This is your chance to see the result of their work. A script-in-hand performance, with professional actors, performed as part of this year’s Chester Literature Festival performance weekend.
Something Wishful Friday 12th December The spectacular closing celebration for Cheshire’s Year of Gardens 2008. Based on the Thai, Loy Krathong or floating candle ceremony, the event will take place on and around the River Dee in Chester. Thousands of ‘wishes’, made by local communities and artists will be launched into the river as part of the celebrations in December. The event is produced by Chester Performs, who are working with Emergency Exit Arts from London and with the Cheshire Year of Gardens team. www.chesterperforms.com/www.eea.org.uk

Chester Performs is overseeing the development of the city’s new performing arts centre, which will open in 2011. Set to challenge audiences with a series of high profile performing arts events and community projects Chester Performs aims are to broaden horizons and raise the level of expectation in the performing arts both in Chester and Cheshire.
Chester Performs is gaining an enviable reputation for staging exciting performances in non-traditional and outdoor spaces across the region. Cutting edge performances will take place on the streets of Chester, by the River Dee and around the Roman walls. These projects will involve street performers and aerial artists, musicians, dancers, actors, visual and sonic artists, installations and performance art. Up The Wall, based on the City Walls, attracted a 3,500 audience in November.
