Chester Writing Project
Twelve young writers from Cheshire have set off on an exciting nine month writing journey this week. The project, run by Chester Performs and led by award winning Action Transport Theatre’s Associate writer Kevin Dyer, offers budding young writers the chance to develop their creative writing skills and see their ideas grow into a piece of live theatre.
The first session kicked off on Tuesday evening when the group attended Action Transport Theatre’s professional production of Night Train; a hard hitting drama looking at the lives of young people in care. Collectively written by the actors appearing in the play, the performance gives the young writers a chance to see what they can aspire to create themselves!
Between now and October the group will meet regularly to develop and write a full length play, with close guidance from professionals throughout. In October, this final script will be performed as a script-in-hand production, with professional actors, as part of this year’s Chester Literature Festival performance weekend.
Kevin Dyer, Writing Project Leader explains; “It’ll happen like this – twelve young writers meet, laugh, share ideas, write on bits of paper, throw most of them away, and after six months an amazing play is produced. Simple!”
It promises to showcase the talent and ambition there is in young people in Cheshire to work collectively and creatively, and Chester Performs and Action Transport are thrilled to be working together to help make this happen.
