80's prices for Silver Anniversary

Remember Duran Duran, big shoulder pads and when you could get a two-course meal for two people for £20. The Holt Lodge Hotel on Wrexham Road is celebrating 25 years of trading this year and 1980’s prices are now available at the award winning Rafters Restaurant on Sunday evenings. The offer runs up to Friday October 5, when there will be an “80’s themed event to celebrate the anniversary, as well as The Holt Lodge Hotel’s new kitchens and reception area.

A quarter of a century ago, The Holt Lodge Hotel started using suppliers Woodward Foodservice, of Deeside Industrial Park, Chester and 25 years on they are still being used. Originally, there were plans to put in a swimming pool, squash club and open up an exclusive club for residents and a select number of non-residents and these plans may still be introduced at The Holt Lodge Hotel.

The kitchen has recently undergone a makeover with brand new state of the art cookery equipment, new flooring and fittings throughout. Refurbishments are also well underway at the independently owned The Holt Lodge Hotel, which include extending and redecorating the reception area and bedrooms as well as installing wireless internet throughout.

Andrew and Alex Smeaton, owners of The Holt Lodge Hotel, said:

“We are delighted to be celebrating 25 years of trading. Investment in The Holt Lodge Hotel has rejuvenated this part of Wrexham Road, which was quite run down in the 1980’s. Times change and at Holt Lodge we are continually trying to reinvent ourselves, with special offers. Investing in the new kitchens and reception area has made a fantastic environment for guests. We are all looking forward to dusting off our old 80’s outfits and for the official celebration in October when there will be a prize for the best outfit and hopefully there’ll be a Duran Duran tribute band.”

Back in 1982 Ray Davies, who built The Holt Lodge Hotel, said:

“There has been nowhere on this side of Wrexham to cater for visiting executives and businessmen to the industrial estate and The Holt Lodge Hotel fills that need. It is ideal for people to stay for a night or more.

“Holt Lodge is sure to fill a gap in the hotel scene in Wrexham and the restaurant and lounge bar will no doubt be an attraction for lunchtime and evening trade, especially during the Summer. A couple should be able to get a good meal for about £20, including wine. They can get all this and more at The Holt Lodge Hotel.”

In 2007, a couple can get a meal for £20 again.

Andrew Smeaton added:

“Holt Lodge has kept ahead of the times and grown to meet the needs of discerning visitors to Wrexham, including the business community at Wrexham Industrial Estate. When we opened, a colour TV in every room was considered cutting edge. Now there is wireless broadband throughout. Holt Lodge has been getting it right for 25 years and are still known for their service, quality and value; things that never change.”
