Faces of Chester 2006

Tuesday’s event was the final of the Faces of Chester 2006 in conjunction with Boss Model Management, the North West’s leading model management agency. Held at the unique and exciting venue of Chester Zoo the evening saw the cream of the crop of the region’s young modelling hopefuls given the opportunity to win a year’s modelling contract with Boss Model Management and hopefully the start to a bright and successful career in the fashion industry.

The finalists, hand picked from all over Chester and the surrounding area, were aged 15 to 28 and varied in their looks, personality and styles. The final ten boys and ten girls performed a catwalk show with the latest Autumn/Winter collections supplied by a range of Chester retailers including, Laura Ashley, Phase 8 and Marc Menswear.

The standard of applicants and their professionalism at the event, which for some was their first ever catwalk show, was outstanding. All looked the part and gave a great performance clearly making the final decision for the judges extremely difficult. What was it that gave the models that X-factor to win over the judges? Melanie Hardy from Boss said “a face that photographs well is important, an unusual feature that may make someone attractive may not come across well on camera, so clean simple lines and good classic features are what we are looking for. Height is also an important factor.”

The winning models certainly matched those criteria. The winners were 15-year-old Jess Miller and 27-year-old Liam Collins. They were completely surprised and thrilled at winning the competition and both were excited at what the future will hold for them.

Liam, a professional Street performer said: “I couldn’t believe it, I was performing in Chester and this woman asked me for my picture I thought yeah why not, I didn’t think I would ever win!”

The judging panel included the Director of Boss, Melanie Hardy and two further bookers from the agency, Lauren and Gareth. Chester’s own team of judges were Helen Booth from Chester City Council Marketing, Richard Daly of Visit Chester and Cheshire and James Night of Jason Lea.

Chester’s Fashion 2006 is organised on behalf of Chester City Council and CHARISMA, with support from the Northwest Regional Development Agency, Visit Chester & Cheshire; the tourism board for Cheshire and Warrington, Creative Industries Support Project (CRISP), Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, The Mall Grosvenor, The Forum Shopping Centre, Chester Zoo, HSBC, Mfm 103.4 and Trinity Mirror.
