Port of Felixstowe Business Intelligence Contract Win

Information Management Solutions Ltd. (IMS), the dynamic IT consultancy for business solutions, announced today the award of a second contract for a Business Intelligence solution from the Port of Felixstowe.

The new contract extends the existing vessel and quayside Business Intelligence solution to the areas which support the quayside operation such as container movements within the Yard and the organisation of the containers within the Yard. This will enable the Port of Felixstowe to analyse, in a consistent and scientific way, the relationship between quayside performance in loading and unloading ships, which is their key deliverable, and the support functions. End users will utilize the award-winning ProClarity BI software to explore their information in an intelligent and interactive way.

Brian Atkinson, BI Project Manager at Port of Felixstowe;
“We are confident IMS can deliver what we expect and build on the excellent system and service they have given us so far with the quayside and vessel performance analysis solution.

This system helps the Port of Felixstowe see how it matches performance standards for various different shipping lines and vessels at each terminal within the port. The system was delivered to time and specification without any major problems and with a number of key benefits. We can now see all the data together in one place. Questions which used to take days to answer now take a few seconds and we get a lot more questions answered, for example, aggregated performance across a number of dimensions which may include the vessel, shipping line, berth, and times.”

Richard Rose, consulting manager of IMS added;
“The technology we delivered for the quayside performance analysis solution uses Microsoft SQL Server to extract, transform and load the data into a data warehouse from many different back-end systems. It utilises Microsoft Analysis Services to generate analysis cubes, and ProClarity as the software for the end user to explore the data.”

A further phase of the Business Intelligence system for the Port will extend phases 1 and 2 to road and rail movements in and out of the port.
