Charles Kennedy at IoD Annual Dinner
The Institute of Directors welcomed former Liberal Democrat Leader Rt Hon Charles Kennedy MP to its North West Annual Dinner 2007 last night with more than 200 guests at The Crowne Plaza, Liverpool. The event also announced a new base for IoD members in Liverpool, a "mini-hub', at 2 Moorfields, Liverpool, L2 2BS within the Yorkshire Bank Financial Solutions Centre. Members will be able to pre-book rooms from May 1 and use a new lounge there with broadband internet access points.

North West comment on Budget Predictions from IoD
As part of its Budget submission, the Institute of Directors (IoD) is warning the Government that U.K. economic policy now stands at a "fork in the road' and we now face a clear choice. Continue along the current path and the UK economy will mirror that of other EU economies with large Governments. Alternatively, pursue global best practice and aim to reduce the size of the state towards the levels seen in the US, Australia, Ireland and Switzerland, where public spending is between 34 per cent and 37 per cent of GDP.

Business leaders said they were disappointed that the Chancellor missed an opportunity to reduce corporation tax in today's Budget. The Institute of Directors (IoD) regretted that the Chancellor chose to adjust a range of reliefs, schemes and exemptions, when a simple cut in the main rate of corporation tax would have been more beneficial. Britain's rate of corporation tax is not as competitive as it needs to be.

The IoD (Institute of Directors) is a non-political independent organisation with 55,000 members. It offers a wide range of business services including business centre facilities, conferences, networking events, issues-led guides and literature as well as information services and free access to a comprehensive business library and enquiry service. The IoD places great emphasis on director development and has established a certified qualification for directors – Chartered Director – as well as running specific board-level and director-level training and individual career mentoring programmes.
