Cocktail Competition winner is Thyme to Get Ugly
The annual battle of the bars reigned supreme last night as Chester’s bartenders mixed and blended with the best. Chester Food and Drink Festival’s organisers teamed up with sponsors Smirnoff Black, Shaker UK and MFM 103.4 to present the biggest and best Cocktail Competition since the Festival started five years ago. The cocktail ‘shake-off’ took place at the Festival’s Marquee on the Crown Courts Car Park and over 80 people attended to see Chester’s best bartenders mix, blend and flair their way into a national bartender competition.

Fish makes you clever! Junior Chef Competition winners
The winners of the Junior Chef Competition were announced from more than 250 entrants. Pupils in schools across Cheshire submitted recipes for the Competition using local produce. The pupils had to put down their method, cook the meal and draw a picture of it.

Sausages go out with a BANG at Food & Drink Festival
The best overall sausage at the sausage competition was announced after three recounts, as the boerewors from Bebington’s, Wirral. This spicy sausage won best flavoured sausage and the winners will receive their Award at the Gala dinner on Tuesday. The winner of the plain category was the pork cumberland from Ferneyhough’s butchers, Market Hall, Chester.

Lots of ladies came to join the fun. Entertainment included hair demos by Headmasters, make up by Essence of Beauty and nails from Urban Hair & Beauty Spa. The latest Spring and Summer collections from Debenhams were modelled by Jenny Simmons and her team. Many had fun trying the new colours and products at the Clinique and Lancome demonstrations with a free gift with purchases on the evening, plus a glass of wine and nibbles and much much more.

Aga Shop Open Day with Marcia Poole
Marcia Poole, Aga demonstrator, cooked on the Aga throughout the day from 11.00am – 4.00pm with an Easter theme. Demonstrations included Thai curry, tomato and squash soup, chocolate and cherry brownies and hot cross buns. She answered any questions visitors asked.

EVENT REPORTS
The massive Taste Marquee for the Festival is going up in Castle Square on Friday ready for the Festival on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
We are expecting 20,000 visitors so it is big news for the North West, many are traveling from London and further afield.
Across the City and around the Cheshire countryside restaurants and pubs are offering special deals for the Festival and to encourage families to sample quality food to inspire thier own eating.
Celebrity chefs are working up an appetite ready for their demonstrations in the celebrity kitchen. The Young chef of the Year final four and Junior Chefs chosen from schools all over the county are getting ready to compete there and we’ve lots of competitions and demos throughout the 3 day Festival on sausages, beer, wine, champagne, cheese, bread and cocktails.
There will be lots of delicious food and scrummy drinks to sample in the taste marquee too. Some unusual, some just plain fantastic!
The marquee will be transformed for the Tuesday night for the glittering Gala Awards Dinner with coveted awards in over 12 categories for excellence in culinary, produce and food & drink skills.
