Queen's School A-Level Results: a superb all-round achievement
The Queen’s School, Chester, Cheshire has published A-level results which underline yet again the high standards achieved by the school’s students . In academic A-level subjects, 76.9% of results were awarded grades A or B, with 94.9% achieving A, B or C, and an overall pass rate of 100%. These included twins Alice and Emily Mason of Huxley, who both scored top grades in four subjects.
Of 56 students who took A-levels, 22 ( almost 40%) gained no fewer than three or more A grades, with 13 sixth formers achieving an outstanding 4 A grades at A-level.
Sixth former Kathryn Wright from Hawarden enjoyed the notable distinction of scoring one of the top five marks in the country in biology. Almost 13,000 candidates took the biology examination, making Kathryn’s success an exceptional achievement.

These results are the product of a great deal of hard work and dedication on the part of both students and teachers and they can all feel rightly proud of what they have achieved. As one of the country’s leading girls’ schools, we have a long tradition of academic excellence. It is good to see that this year’s students have lived up to our high expectations of them.

Background Information
The Queen’s School, Chester, Cheshire is one of the country’s leading independent schools offering the highest standard of education for girls from ages 4 – 18. Since their inception, The Queen’s School has always been at or near the top of the league tables. In the latest Government league tables published in January 2005, Queen’s is again ranked as the top school in Cheshire based on both GCSE and A/AS level results.
Academic success is only one aspect of life at Queen’s. The Queen’s School and its staff encourage all girls to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities; these include drama clubs, plays and musicals, cabaret evenings, choirs and orchestras, a variety of sports such as tennis, lacrosse, football, athletics and gymnastics as well as a science club, an equine club and the Friday club which involves girls helping in the community. Founded in 1878, the school was given its name four years later by command of Queen Victoria and is proud to remain the only school in the country to have been granted the name The Queen’s School by royal decree. The school has a number of bursaries available to students. Mrs Catherine Buckley is the present headmistress of The Queen’s School. Mrs Felicity Taylor is head of the Lower School on Liverpool Road.
Past pupils include Beth Tweddle, Olympic Gymnast, Sarah Kelly founder of the UK’s Neuromuscular Centre for muscular dystrophy and Vivienne Faull, the first woman to become Dean of an English Cathedral.
