Benedictine at Chester Food and Drink Festival 2006
On Easter Saturday, visitors to the Chester Food and Drink Festival will be able to try a free sample of the famous ‘Bene ‘n’ hot’, a warming drink made with Benedictine liqueur. The sampling will take place in the Taste Marquee from 10am on Saturday 15th April.
The traditional French drink, created in 1510 by a Venetian monk, is made from a unique recipe blending 27 herbs and spices sourced from the four corners of the world and infused with saffron, honey and caramel to give it a distinctive and world-famous flavour.
Benedictine is enjoyed the world over, in a variety of different ways. Traditionally, it is served neat over ice, but it also features in many classic cocktails and is delicious when added to coffee and cream.
Benedictine liqueur has a long history with the North West, stretching back to the soldiers of the East Lancashire 11th Battalion and their discovery of the French liqueur during the final winter of the First World War while based in Fecamp, Normandy. The regiment fell in love with the liqueur, drinking it with hot water in the trenches to stay warm. When the soldiers returned home with the liqueur, they created a strong bond between Benedictine and the region, which continues to this day.
Benedictine is a First Drinks brand and can be found in the ‘brands’ section of the www.firstdrinks.co.uk website
