Top School with loads of bottle
Chester Food & Drink Festival’s world record attempt for 2006 is looking good! During the next few weeks schools all over Chester will be getting stuck in making their piece of the massive world beating mosaic which will be completed in the Town Hall Square on April 3. And one school in particular has come out tops.
The Arches Community Primary School in Saughall Road, Blacon is the School that has collected the most bottle tops: more than 20,000, which is a tenth of that needed for the world record attempt which will be accredited by Guinness World Records. As a reward this school of 300 children will have their logo included in the mosaic.
Shaun Mohan, class teacher at The Arches Community Primary School, said:
“This is a fantastic achievement and the children are really excited about the world record attempt. The bottle tops are still coming in and have been collected by parents, family, pubs and shops in the Blacon area. We have 11 mosaic sections to complete, one for each class at the school. Children from Reception to Year Six will be busily gluing over the next couple of weeks.”
Hoole Church of England Primary & Nursery School also deserves a special mention. It also collected thousands of bottle tops coming a close second.
And it’s not all schools… The Cheshire Cat on the A41 in Christleton collected several thousand bottle tops and will also have their name represented in the mosaic as the pub that collected the most bottle tops in Chester. The Watergate Inn, Watergate Square and the Farndon Arms in Farndon also collected thousands of tops.
Project Organiser Russell Kirk said: “This has been a magnificent group response from the people of Chester. We now have enough bottle tops for the world record attempt, well over 200,000. Last year, Chester’s Food & Drink Festival toast mosaic beat a world record previously held by a New Zealand artist. The 2006 Chester world record attempt will smash a record held by Japan. The intention is to create a permanent display but all unused tops will be recycled.”
The bottle tops will be stuck down onto plywood to form the mosaic. Like the world record achieved last year with the toast mosaic, the bottle top mosaic will feature the Chester Food & Drink Festival logo.
