Celebrity chefs announced for Food & Drink Festival - more reasons to stay in Chester over Easter

This year’s Chester Food & Drink Festival promises an even more impressive line up of celebrity chefs for visitors to the Festival Taste Marquee over Easter.

The celebrity chef line up is Thomasina Miers winner of Masterchef 2005 for Easter Saturday 15th April. Thomasina’s food philosophy is for unfussy, locally-sourced, ‘organic where possible’ dishes. She is an active member of the Slow Food movement.

Lesley Waters who appears regularly on Ready Steady Cook, Good Food Live and This Morning will visit on Easter Sunday. Lesley is passionate about ‘good food for health’s sake’, often taking this as the theme at her cookery displays.

On Easter Monday 17th April, Simon Rimmer, TV chef extraordinaire & vegetarian expert will be demonstrating his culinary skills. Simon co-presents Great Food Live and Great Food Bites. He has also had two series of his own – Rimmer’s Dinners and Grub’s Up

Last year, celebrity chef James Martin helped opened the Festival. He cooked for packed audiences in the celebrity kitchen and has since become a household name.

Stephen Wundke, chairman of the Chester Food and Drink Festival; “This year there are even more reasons to visit or stay in Chester at Easter. It is a measure of how prestigious the Festival has become that we can attract such world-class chefs. Already all stands in the taste marquee are taken and we now have only a few opportunities for sponsors left. Hotels and restaurants will also be offering special packages throughout the Festival for visitors.”

Background Chester’s Food and Drink Fringe Festival will also take place around the City from 12 – 22 April 2006 involving special offers for accommodation and eating out to excite the whole family. There will also be the famous Cheese Rolling ceremony on 15th March, the Bottle Cap Mosaic World Record Attempt on 3rd April and the Ale Assize around the City on 22nd April.

Nearly 100 producers and exhibitors now completely fill the taste marquee. Each will be bringing their own skills and produce from Cheshire, nearby counties and around the world to be part of the Festival.

There are to be seminars and competitions in micro brewing, wines, sausages and cheeses and the opportunity to taste local paté, black pudding, bread, cereals, oils, pies, meat, fish, cheeses, chocolates, liqueurs and even a juice bar.

The prestigious gala dinner and awards ceremony takes place on Tuesday 18th April. Entries for the award categories are already being received.

Festival brochures are available across the City from March. Phone 01244 351609 for more details.
