Chester Food and Drink Festival Puts on Weight for Easter 2006
This year’s Chester Food & Drink Festival will have an even bigger Marquee, an even more impressive line up of exhibitors and demonstrations and a heavyweight team of celebrity chefs, with star-studded events and awards. Chester Food and Drink Festival Taste Marquee is planned for 15 – 17 April 2006, Easter Saturday to Easter Monday. A Food and Drink Fringe Festival will also take place around the City from 12 – 22 April 2006 involving special offers for accommodation and eating out to excite the whole family. There will also be the famous Cheese Rolling ceremony on 15th March, the Bottle Cap Mosaic World Record Attempt on 3rd April and the Ale Assize around the City on 22nd April.
Celebrity chefs already confirmed include Thomasina Miers winner of Masterchef 2005, Lesley Waters currently featuring on the cover of BBC’s Good Food magazine and Simon Rimmer, TV chef extraordinaire & vegetarian expert. James Martin who opened the Festival with a packed audience last year has since become a household name, not just for his culinary skills!
60 producers and exhibitors are confirmed already for the marquee, as many as exhibited last year. Each will be bringing their own skills and produce from Cheshire, nearby counties and around the world to be part of the Festival.
There are to be seminars and competitions in micro brewing, wines and cheeses and the opportunity to taste local pate, black pudding, bread, cereals, oils, pies, meat, fish, cheeses, chocolates, liqueurs and even a juice bar.
Evening events will be varied and entertaining. The Champagne evening was a great success and there is the annual Cocktail competition attracting national standard entries from around the City.
The gala dinner and awards ceremony on Tuesday 18th April 2006 will involve over 250 people sampling a menu sourced from leading producers in the Northwest. Entries for the award categories are already being received.
Stephen Wundke, chairman of the Chester Food and Drink Festival; “This year there are even more reasons to visit Cheshire at Easter in 2006. Building on last year’s success this bigger and better festival has already attracted private sponsorship from Rodney Densem Wines, premier food wholesaler H. N. Nuttall and Shell UK. There are indeed only a few opportunities for sponsors and exhibitors left.”
