Hill Dickinson calms the storm with Legal Issues Seminar for the hospitality sector
More than 25 delegates braved the wind and the rain to attend a seminar examining legal issues for the visitor economy, which was given by the Chester office of leading UK legal business Hill Dickinson LLP. The seminar, held at Inglewood Manor, Ledsham, examined acquisitions and disposals, the employment of temporary workers and the legal issues of internet marketing.
The seminar began with a discussion of acquisitions and disposals of businesses from Alexandra Mason, a solicitor from the Corporate department at Hill Dickinson. Lyndsey Nettle, an employment specialist solicitor with Hill Dickinson then discussed the legal implications of employing temporary workers. Lyndsey highlighted that there are 1.8 million temporary workers in the UK, with 18.2 per cent of workers in the hotel and restaurant industry across Chester and Cheshire being temporary workers.
Shelley Thomas, an Associate in intellectual property and information technology matters (despite being delayed by four hours due to traffic on the M6), discussed the legal ramifications and finer points of web sites, including disclaimers, terms and conditions of sale and supply and privacy policies.
The event was run in conjunction with Visit Chester and Cheshire and members discussed the implications of legislation to businesses from across the North West and North Wales.
Iain Campbell, partner in commercial litigation for Hill Dickinson Chester, said: “This is the first of series of seminars being held by Hill Dickinson Chester throughout the year designed to assist attendees. The focus of the seminars is to help organisations in key sectors become more legally aware of pitfalls, the issues they need to face and to highlight opportunities they can take. Hill Dickinson Chester is delighted to be working in conjunction with Visit Chester & Cheshire to achieve this. At Hill Dickinson we can cover every aspect of commercial law with experts in all fields, however specialist that is. Our focus is to ensure businesses throughout the North West and across North Wales are globally aware of legal matters and this is critical for the tourism and hospitality sector that VCC supports.”
Martin Webb, Membership Manager for Visit Chester and Cheshire, added: “This was a very enjoyable and informative seminar, where members of the tourism industry met Hill Dickinson’s legal experts in an informal setting. The breadth of expertise offered by Hill Dickinson, who can pull in experts from different offices across the North West, is very impressive. Despite the weather, we were very pleased to see that tourism businesses from across Cheshire, Flintshire and Wrexham attended.”
Hill Dickinson Chester, based at Cuppin Street, is a top 40 legal firm, providing national expertise at a local level.
The next Hill Dickinson Chester legal seminar is on terms and conditions of business on Friday April 11th at De Vere Carden Park Hotel starting at 9am.
