The Witches of Eastgate: The Blossoms Witch Project
The winners of a competition to hold a free charity event have been announced by The Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel in Chester. The winners, Claire House Children’s Hospice, will be supported by the St.John Street based Hotel. The event will comprise a ladies luncheon with a flower demonstration, which is being held at The Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel, St.John Street, just off Eastgate Street, in Chester on April 10.
Claire House Children’s Hospice is a self-funding charity which relies fully on voluntary donations.
Following on from the announcement, the wives of footballing greats known as WITCHES (Women In Touch with Claire House), will be organising this event. The attendees include the wives of former Anfield legends John Barnes, Ian Rush and Jan Molby who will be taking part in the lunch, with all proceeds going to Claire House Children’s Hospice. Other witches include the fiance of Lee Martin, who scored the winning goal for Manchester United in the 1990 FA Cup Final and Lisa McAteer, wife of former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland midfielder Jason McAteer.
Kate Halewood, General Manager of The Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel, said: “Claire House Children’s Hospice is a fantastic cause; we are delighted to be involved. We are urging all potential witches and wizards in the Chester area to attend this unmissable, great value event and enjoy the fantastic facilities the hotel has to offer.”
Founding member of the WITCHES Mandy Molby added: “It costs £2 million a year to run Claire House. We are looking to provide essential things for children. Every single penny raised from this event at The Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel will go to Claire House. We are hoping the money raised will pay for a tropical fish tank and juke box for the children. We have more than 50 WITCH members so far; wizards are also welcome. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hallmark Jewellers of Heswall, Estee Lauder and Boodles for all of their support.”
Abi Smith, fundraiser for Claire House Children’s Hospice, said: “We cannot thank The Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel and the Witches enough for everything they have done for us. The hotel has provided a complimentary meal, as well as use of the venue and facilities. Without the support of organisations like these Claire House could not function.”
Tickets for the lunch cost £20 for a three-course meal at The Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel, including the flower demonstration, which starts at 11.30am. All attendants of the lunch will receive a goodie-bag. Raffle prizes include a weekend for two at The Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel worth £500, dinner for two at The Snooty Fox restaurant and a bottle of Moet and Chandon Champagne. In addition, Simon Glanville, Managing Director of Store, based in Queen Street, Chester CH1 3LG, has kindly offered vouchers in support of the event.
The witches were established in August 2007 and in order to become a member and provide ongoing support for Claire House there is a cost of £1 a week, which is set up as a standing order.
